The Bournemouth International Centre (BIC) is well known as a popular
location for large-scale events and enjoys a reputation as one of the
UK’s leading business tourism destinations. It also represents big
business for Bournemouth. The conference and exhibition industry is
fierce, and maintaining this reputation is no easy task. “The UK faces
competitive challenges in terms of bringing business tourists to the
country, but there is also strong competitiveness between UK
destinations,” says Clive Tyers, head of conferences and exhibitions for
the BIC. “We are always pushing to stay ahead in terms of service and
facilities, but communication with our customers is also paramount.” In
constant contact with leading journalists and key publications, Omnia
ensures that the BIC features heavily in all trade publications. “We
know the value of PR and we make ourselves available to the media,” adds
Mr Tyers. “If Omnia present us with an opportunity, which they
frequently do, we work as a team to maximise exposure and it always pays
off.” The BIC also works with CCA on above-the-line
communications, including the entertainments and “show” side of the
business – a clear demonstration of integrated communications in action
under one roof.
